FOR LABOR DAY.....I SPENT THE DAY WITH LOVE!
Quick charm is sometimes easier than deep connection. It's easy for strangers to like you. It's harder to be loved and deeply connected by those in your home when you give them your exhausted self. Quick charm is like sugar-it rots us. It winds us up and leaves us jonesing but it doesn't feed us. Only love feeds us. Love happens over time, repetitive motions, staying, staying and staying. Showing up again. Coming clean again. Being seen again. Saying I'm sorry again. That's how love is built.
And if you can wean yourself off the drug of quick charm, off the drug of being good at something, the drug of work or money or information or marathon training-whatever drug you use to avoid the sometimes scary intimacy required of a rich home life-that's when love can begin.
