At 20 years old, God began my career in nursing at a small town ER in Sylacauga. It's true that when the schedule was made and your day fell on "Dr.Cooley shift" you breathed a little easier. You knew that no matter what came through the doors he would create calmness even in chaos. You knew that he would give the utmost competent care. You knew that the patients and their families would understand the education he gave them because he spent time explaining. You knew that control would be maintained and compassion would be shown. You knew you would get a good laugh in and learn something new. You knew he could even repair your car in the parking lot if needed or help you through the steps of fixing something at home.
He was the very first doctor I ever worked under and he set such a high standard (and spoiled me)! He made the workplace a learning environment. He made me feel confident in my assignments and he cared about my responsibilities. He is not only an amazing physician but friend to many. Those who know him love him.
I felt "at home" today in that little parking lot by the ambulance bay. I wish I could spend time with so many individuals I got to hug today. I wish I could tell each one of them how special they are to me and a memory I have of them specifically. Home is where your heart is.....a little piece of my heart will always be at CVMC. These people pictured, those I hugged today and many others that couldn't be there today made my first years of nursing the BEST of my life. I would go back in a minute with my crew!! They are forever my family.
Thanks to all who coordinated such a special day for a precious man. What a perfect way to kick off a new month. It was an honor and privilege to be able to attend the very 1st ANNUAL "Harold Cooley M.D. Day"!! I will think of him every Oct.1 and those others who helped me along the way!!

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10 @ Coosa Valley Medical Center
