Small town, BIG GAME!

This is a article about my sweet little brother! I am so very proud of him! I can't wait to watch him play this fall on Friday nights and see where God leads him after a memorable Senior year!!! I love you Trey! GO #16!

If you drive 102 miles southeast from Birmingham, you will find the small town of Woodland, Ala. If you're lucky.

The quaint Randolph County town only covers a few miles that rest inside the city limits. There aren’t any 4 star restaurants or any high rise hotels. There isn't even a traffic light in Woodland. There is, however, a proud high school tradition that is starting to find its way on the recruiting map.

Late in 2009, the Bobcat program started seeing college recruiters find their way to WHS to see C.J. Stephens, a 6’4” 255 pound defensive end that eventually signed with Georgia State. The coaches have saved Woodland as a point of return in the GPS, though. The reason? fast rising QB Trey Fetner has burst onto the scene as one of the more interesting signal callers in the south.

Fetner is the centerpiece of the spread style offense that the Bobcats run. Trey’s powerful right arm allows him to make all of the throws that can be made. At 6’1” 204 pounds with speed in the 4.7 range, the Bobcat QB is a threat through the air and on the ground. In 2009, Fetner threw for 1,611 yards and 13 touchdowns, while adding another 612 yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground. Trey has shown abilities in games and workouts that draw comparisons to graduating Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing.

“Trey is a wonderful player,” says Woodland HS Coach Larry Strain. “He does a little bit of everything for us. He plays QB, safety and punts for our team. If we can get a little more production from our running game, we can turn some of those 8 and 10 yard passes into big gains.”

The recruiting interest is really starting to take off for Fetner. After recently attending junior day activities at Auburn, Trey is planning to attend dates at Marshall and Middle Tennessee. When asked about his thoughts on the Blue Raiders, the QB only had good things to say about the program.

“I really love the offensive system at Middle Tennessee”, said Fetner. “The facilities are great are great up there! I’m being recruited by wide receiver coach Justin Watts. We are planning to visit sometime this spring.”

While admitting to the fact that Marshall is probably recruiting him the hardest, Fetner claimed that he currently has no leaders. In addition to Auburn, Marshall and MTSU, Fetner and Coach Strain confirmed interest from a number of schools including: Army, Duke, Illinois, LSU, N.C. State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and numerous FCS programs.

“I don’t have any favorites”, stated the senior to be. “To be honest, I am truly thrilled to be recruited by all these programs that are interested in me. I just want to play ball.”

Trey and his family will be lining up a camp tour for this summer. We will keep you posted on the recruiting and progress for Fetner in the months to come.
